Senior Scientist (Stem Cell Group)

Job Description The ideal candidate will participate in the product development and CRO services in the stem cell group, and will be responsible for generation, maintenance, differentiation, characterization and genomic modification of human pluripotent stem cell-derived lines. Extensive hands-on experience in working with human iPSC culture is required.  Experience with primary human cells (especially neural cells), developing complex functional assays, high content imaging, and implementing quantitative image analysis using commercial and open-source software is preferred. The applicant will be part of a fast-paced manufacture and R&D team. Good communication and people skills are required.

Minimum Qualifications The ideal candidate will have a M.S. or Ph.D. in Biology or related science and minimum of 5 years of experience in primary human and stem cell biology and assay development. Strong technical background in neuroscience and electrophysiology is preferred. Experience with iPS cell growth and differentiation particularly in feeder-free conditions is required; history with iPSC-derived cell-based assay systems is preferred. Excellent multi-tasking skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently are required. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a highly-collaborative team environment.

Essential Functions

  • Identify and determine critical products needed in the fields of cell culture and stem cell biology.
  • Design and carry out experiments and tests leading to the development of new products suited for stem cell biology and cell culture, flow cytometry, and immunocytochemistry.
  • Independently lead CRO projects in stem cell groups, including project evaluation, experiment design and troubleshooting
  • Discuss findings with lab manager and provide recommendations for future experimentation.
  • Survey current literature to keep up with scientific findings and technical matters related to stem cells and developmental biology.
  • Assist lab director in training of sales and technical support groups.
  • Assist lab director with technical literature writing and proofing.
  • Represent the company at professional meetings both within and outside of the company.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Ability to work occasional (and sometimes frequent) weekend hours

Research Associate (Stem Cell Group)

Job Description The candidate will be involved in a variety of R&D projects. Extensive hands-on experience in working with human iPSCs is required. Experience in working with primary human cells (especially neural cells), developing complex functional assays, high content imaging, and implementing quantitative image analysis using commercial and open-source software is preferred. The applicant will be part of a fast-paced manufacture and R&D team. Good communication and people skills are required. Some of the specific techniques used include the following: animal surgery and dissection, primary cell isolation, cell/tissue culture, immunohistochemistry, cryosectioning, fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, RNA isolation and RT-PCR, protein extraction, Western blot, ELISA, as well as processing human blood and tissue samples.
