Senior Scientist / Associate Director (Stem Cell Group)

Job Description The ideal candidate will participate in the product development and CRO services in the stem cell group, and will be responsible for generation, maintenance, differentiation, characterization and genetic modification of human iPSC/ESC lines. Extensive hands-on experience in working with human iPSC/ESC culture is required.  Experience with primary human cells (especially neural cells), developing complex functional assays, high content imaging, and implementing quantitative image analysis using commercial and open-source software is preferred. The applicant will be part of a fast-paced manufacture and R&D team. Good communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Minimum Qualifications The ideal candidate should have a M.S. or Ph.D. in Biology or related science and minimum of 5 years of experience in primary human and stem cell biology and assay development. Strong technical background in neuroscience and electrophysiology is preferred. Experience with iPS cell culture and differentiation, particularly in feeder-free conditions, is required; experience in cell-based assay systems using iPSC derivatives is preferred. Excellent multi-tasking skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a highly-collaborative team environment.

Essential Functions

  • Identify and determine critical products needed in the fields of cell culture and stem cell biology.
  • Design and carry out experiments and tests leading to the development of new products suited for stem cell biology and cell culture, flow cytometry, and immunocytochemistry.
  • Independently lead CRO projects in stem cell groups, including project evaluation, experiment design and troubleshooting
  • Discuss findings with lab manager and provide recommendations for future experimentation.
  • Survey current literature to keep up with scientific findings and technical matters related to stem cells and developmental biology.
  • Assist lab director in training of sales and technical support groups.
  • Assist lab director with technical literature writing and proofing.
  • Represent the company at professional meetings both within and outside of the company.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Ability to work occasional (and sometimes frequent) weekend hours

Research Associate (Stem Cell Group)

Job Description The candidate will be involved in a variety of R&D projects. Extensive hands-on experience in working with human iPSCs is required. Experience in working with primary human cells (especially neural cells), developing complex functional assays, high content imaging, and implementing quantitative image analysis using commercial and open-source software is preferred. The applicant will be part of a fast-paced manufacture and R&D team. Good communication and people skills are required. Some of the specific techniques used include the following: animal surgery and dissection, primary cell isolation, cell/tissue culture, immunohistochemistry, cryosectioning, fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, RNA isolation and RT-PCR, protein extraction, Western blot, ELISA, as well as processing human blood and tissue samples.

Associate Scientist/Sr. Associate Scientist (Primary Cell Group)

Overview

iXCells Biotechnologies, located in San Diego, is expanding its in vitro biology group. We are seeking a highly skilled individual to join our team. The position will involve in bench work with highly hands-on experience on primary cell isolation

Responsibilities

  • Isolate and characterize primary cells from various tissue specimens
  • Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures including culturing and maintaining primary cells and cell lines; may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
  • Assist with and perform other experiments as required
  • Conduct routine lab duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology or closely related fields with at least 2-3 years of working experience
  • Experience with handling rodents or human tissue specimens is a requirement; experience in liver and kidney tissue processing is a plus.
  • Proficiency in rodent dissection, Flow cytometry, ELISA and basic molecular biology skills such as subcloning, PCR and DNA/RNA purification
  • Ability to multitask across several research areas/projects
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes quickly
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organization and record-keeping skills
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in MS Office and other software/websites for sequencing analysis and data graphing

Scientist/Sr. Scientist in Immuno-Oncology 

Overview

iXCells Biotechnologies, located in San Diego, is expanding its in vitro biology group. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team. The position will involve in management and bench-level activities, as well as cross-functional interactions with other research teams

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in vitro experiments for preclinical contract research
  • Implement cellular assays using various techniques such as cell sorting, multi-color flow cytometry, CyTOF, gene expression
  • Proficiency in data analysis and experiment troubleshooting; accurately interpret data and communicate experimental results internally
  • Search and utilize literatures and external resources to support ongoing studies
  • Assist with and perform other experiments as required
  • Help to manage lab coordination

Qualifications

  • MS with 7+ or Ph.D. with 3+ years working experience in biology, pharmacology or closely related fields
  • Solid technical knowledge and hands-on experience with conventional immunological techniques
  • Proficiency in the characterization of blood cell subpopulations employing cytometry and additional methods for immune cell analysis
  • Experience with advanced multi-color flow cytometry (FACS) for sorting and analysis of tissue-derived samples is a big plus
  • Ability to multitask across several research areas/projects
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes quickly
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organization and record-keeping skills

Lab Assistant

The lab assistant will be assisting our scientists with lab maintenance, preparing reagents, inventory management, data entry & analysis and performing basic research experiments including cell culture, PCR, IHC, etc.  The candidate will also be assisting the shipping manager to prepare shipments. Other non-routine assays might be necessary and will be added to the workload as needed.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

- Lab maintenance including preparing reagent, inventory management

- Mammalian cell culture

- Molecular biology assays: PCR, molecular cloning
- Verify & ensure accuracy of shipping labels, trace sheets and actual shipment contents; Using shipping software (Fedex/DHL/UPS) to create shipping labels.
- Prepare and handle temperature sensitive biological products for shipment to customers 
- Prepare all necessary shipment paperwork, create & label boxes and prepare shipment packages 
- Work well under deadlines
- Load/unload trucks; being able to lift > 60lb packages
- Conduct routine preparation of laboratory reagents, solutions, and media when necessary

Qualifications and Skills
- B.A. or B.S. (majored in Biology, Bioengineering, or related field is preferred)
- valid CA driver's license and has good DMV driving record
- Previous experience in shipping/receiving is preferred. 
- Experience in a wet lab environment and basic working knowledge of molecular biology techniques is preferred.
